"Moravian Treasures from Vican Winery and Farma Pálava Cheese Dairy"

In 2016, during a journey from Lednice to Mikulov in the South Moravian region, our eyes were drawn to a sign indicating a magical place known a Farma Pálava, the headquarters of the Vican Winery, where you can indulge in exquisite cheeses and interesting, high-quality wines. Without hesitation, we turned onto a narrow side road and found ourselves there in no time. Since then, we've had the pleasure of visiting the Vican Winery two more times. We can see that this place is developing dynamically - a new winery building has been constructed, bike parking spots have appeared, loungers where one can relax and enjoy excellent food and wine.

Below is a view of the winery building where also special events take place.

Farma Pálava is located in the heart of Pálava and was established in 2014. It focuses on producing natural cow's and goat's cheeses enriched with regional herbs. The flavor compositions perfectly complement the wines from Vican. In the shop, you can purchase both mature cheeses aged on oak shelves (cow's for at least 6 months, goat's for a minimum of one year) as well as fresh cheeses.

Both Farma and the vineyard are owned by the Vican family. An interesting fact for fans of Czech comedies: the founder of Vinařství Vican is Mr. Tomáš Vican, the producer of the TV series "Vinaři" (Winemakers) and the "Bobule" trilogy. He got so involved in the subject that in 2015, he followed in Honza's footsteps and became a winemaker himself.

Currently, grapevines are cultivated on 32 hectares, and for storage purposes, 5 nearly century-old wine cellars were purchased.

Vinařství Vican offers a wide range of white wines:

  • Traminer

  • Chardonnay

  • Pinot Gris

  • Silvaner

  • Pálava

For red wine enthusiasts, Vican produces wines from varieties such as:

  • Cabernet Sauvignon

  • Frankovka (Blaufränkisch)

  • Merlot

  • Pinot Noir

For me, the most interesting grape variety is Pálava, a hybrid of my beloved Gewürztraminer and Müller Thurgau. This variety hasn't spread far beyond Moravia, with only small quantities planted in other regions outside of the Czech Republic, such as Slovakia. Due to its slightly higher acidity content, Pálava wines tend to have a more delicate harmony and are enriched with a vanilla note, making them more appealing to many aficionados compared to Traminer.

Vican wines mainly mature in 600-liter oak and acacia barrels. Additionally, the vineyard offers a separate line of wines called Kvevri House, which mature in traditional Georgian clay vessels called qvevri.

An additional attraction for children are the animals that roam freely around the playground. In 2016, it was Thelma and Louise the goats, and recently, it's been Leonardo the llama and Romeo the donkey.

I'm uploading a map that will help you locate Vican winery.
